Who is Van Gogh?
Born on March 30th, 1853, in Groot-Zundert, Netherlands, Vincent Van Gogh was a Dutch post-impressionist painter who is widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in Western art.
Known mostly by many as the man who brutally cut his own ear off, Van Gogh severely struggled with mental health throughout his life. It was that self-destructive behaviour that ultimately culminated in his death on July 29, 1890.
Van Gogh’s early life was marked by various struggles and setbacks. He worked as an art dealer, a teacher, and a preacher before dedicating himself fully to art in his late twenties.

In total, he produced around 2,100 pieces in just over a decade. Many of these would become world-renowned, including “Starry Night,” “Sunflowers,” “Irises,” and “The Bedroom.”
Though sadly, his work gained very little recognition during his lifetime. Tragically, he only managed to sell 1 painting before his untimely death. Ironically, following his death, his work would command some of the highest prices ever recorded for art.
Today he is regarded as one of the most fascinating artists that ever lived and has left a lasting impression on modern art.
